Throw pillows are like the icing on top of a cake, I always wait to throw them into the design very last to add that extra dimension and pop of color the space could be lacking. I love to layer, add texture and color, and mix and match. For this pillow styling, I am going to be doing on a sofa. The general rules still apply to most all furniture, beds can sometimes be another story I will save that one for another post.
Picking the right size for your pillows is everything! You want to start with the largest in the back I usually go for a 24″ Euro or 22″. From there go down in size to 18″ and 16″ and then last you will want to do a lumbar or bolster in the front.
2.COLOR AND PATTERN
I always like to mix patterned pillows with complimenting solid colors between two different patterns also mixing the patterns for instance stripes with geometric patterns.
3.MIX AND MATCH
Like I mentioned before, start with a euro pillow in the back when choosing sizes. Then layer in some 20-inch – 16-inch sizes with a lumbar in the front. Remember to pay attention to contrasting shapes, lines, sizes, patterns, and textures!
There are two ways I like to mix and match. The traditional way of doing the same pillows and patterns on each side of the sofa. And the second “non-traditional” way mix the pillows on both sides of the sofa using complementing colors and patterns with some same tones to make it all come together.
